Apostles and Prophets

“I Exhort therefore, that, first of all, supplications, prayers, and giving of thanks,
Be made for all men; For Kings, and for all that are in authority; that we may lead
A quite and peaceable life in all Godliness and honesty. For this is good and acceptable
In the sight of God our Savior . I Timothy 2:1-3

The apostle Paul wrote these words to his son in the gospel Timothy, as an instruction to
Him as a spiritual leader and as an instruction to the church of the Lord Jesus Christ. Most theologians agree that Paul wrote the pastoral letters (I & II Timothy, Titus) while imprisoned in a roman jail, during the time in which a wicked roman emperor by the name of “Nero” ruled over not just Rome but the then known world. Nero launched one of the greatest persecutions against the church in the history of Christianity. At the time of pauls writing of the pastoral letters Christ church was under severe persecution by the roman Government.

In light of this pauls instruction to Pastor Timothy and to the church was to pray, intercede and to give
Thanks for all men particularly for kings(presidents, goveners, senators, ect….)and for all who are in authority. Note he didn’t say pray for them if you like them or if they were your candidate in an election
Or if they are of your same ethnic background. Paul’s simple instruction is pray for your leaders righteous
Or whether you feel they are unrighteous. Paul also said that if we do this we will experience Gods peace
In our lives. The suggestion here is that our peace doesn’t depend on a man it depends on our fervent prayers and our faith in the Living God.

I want to speak to every believer in Jesus Christ and particularly to African American Christians. On November 4th 2008 we all witnessed history being made in this great country that we all Love as the
People Elected the first man of African descent to the office of president of the united states of America.
Not only did we watch and celebrate as this monumental event unfolded, but the whole world was watching.
People in other nations understood the signicance of this event and rejoiced with Americans over the Selection of the first African American president. The impact of this can already be seen in the
Faces and be heard in the conversations of African Americans who are the direct descendants of slaves who were brought to this nation on slave ships and forced to work on plantations. Descendants of those who
Marched and died during the civil rights movement for equality and the right to vote. Yes, I agree that
That watching President Elect Obama give his stirring yet sobering victory speech , watching his wife
Michelle And their two beautiful Daughters walk out on that stage at the end as the new first family was
Inspiring to say the least. I do feel that in many ways this history making event will have a positive effect on African Americans particularly on our youth in terms of how they see themselves and what they can accomplish with their lives.

Having said all that , Saints lets not lose sight of our unique role in helping president Elect Obama
Succeed. I believe that his success or failure depends on what the church does at this moment. Now,
I know that I’m not talking to everybody but to them who have an to ear hear the word of the Lord.
He is the next president whether you voted for him or not and this is one of the most important presidential
Elections of our life time. There is now a lot of expectation for president obama, probably more then any other president in our history. Church we must be reminded that God not president Elect Barack Obama is
Our source our help comes from the Lord. Can God use President Obama to bring about Change and a
New kind of Government that is truly for the people? Yes! But not if we don’t pray and intercede for him, his family and this country like never before. The worse thing that the church can do right now is join the vast majority of the country in thinking that things are going to change just because a different party is in control in Washington. The worse thing African Americans can do Is to think things are going to change Just because we finally have a black president (as inspiring and monumental as this is). I repeat blood washed, spirit filled believers in Jesus and the Word of God must pray for President Obama. We must understand that there are already forces seeking his demise. Paul taught:

“for we wrestle not against flesh and blood, but against principalities , against powers, against the rulers
Of the darkness of this world, against spiritual wickedness in high places. Ephesians 6:12

Saints don’t you understand that Satan knows that the hopes of millions of people are resting on the shoulders of this one man. He is a symbol of change he is not the change. As kingdom people we understand that the change we seek will not come from the white house but from being transformed by the renewing of our minds and impacting our culture, society and nation with the message of the kingdom of God. I caution many of my African American Christian brothers and sisters Don’t worship Barack Worship God ,Pray for Barack. He is being handed A country that is in debt trillions of dollars, a country in recession, a country still fighting a war, a Nation where millions of people are losing there jobs and they are expecting him to fix it. I appreciated his honesty on Tuesday night when he said this is not going to be easy and it won’t all be fixed over night.

I believe that Barack Obama is a type of Joseph he represents an entire generation of men and women who are called by God to save a nation in crisis God is positioning us in all facets of our society to bring the wisdom and mind of God to this nation in a time of great national calamity., however if the people of God
Don’t pray for President Obama we are setting him up to fail and if he fails we all fail.

So with the transition of Power already underway please remember to pray the following for President
Elect Obama

1. For his Mind and heart and that he will be open to wise Godly counsel.

2. Pray that God will set Godly people around him and that he will perceive them
And embrace them.

3. Pray that he make the right cabinet selections

4. Pray that he has the right priorities established and the right agenda as he assumes command
Of the country in January.

5. pray for his health

6. . Pray for Michelle and the Girls

7. Pray for his and his families protection

People of God it is critical that we intercede regularly for the President elect during this
Transition period and beyond.

For this country it can be the best of times or it can be the worst of times it will depend on the
Prayers and intercessions of the Church of the Lord Jesus Christ.

“ Thy Kingdom Come, thy will be done on earth as it is in Heaven”
